This small studio creates a work space for a professional couple and their kids, while an adjacent terrace provides a car space and outdoor entertainment area next to a new deck. A curved concrete roof, brick wall and custom steel window give the building a surprising softness and provide a potential backdrop for a collection of animal sculptures!
Raw, robust materials including recycled brick, concrete and timber were deliberately chosen to contrast the weatherboard cottage and reflect the vernacular of the adjacent laneway. The project is still waiting for the huge elephant sculpture planned for the roof, but in the meantime the green roof provides a lush view from the main house and deck.
