Set in the undulating dunes of Blairgowrie, this house is a composition of spaces and forms that interact with the landscape to create a private living oasis.
The material palette is restrained, robust and timeless, including fine timber screens juxtaposed with light coloured concrete blocks. The highly considered arrangement of natural materials sits in harmony with the coastal context.
A separate garage structure at the front of the property, combined with the use of screens creates a discrete and intriguing street presence. The entry sequence begins in a calm, zen hall before arriving into the main living pavilion, with views out to the swimming pool beyond – a domestic resort! The kitchen and meals area flows seamlessly out to the covered pool side terrace, while the living space addresses the front garden, with operable screens providing privacy and solar protection.
Set perpendicular to the living pavilion, a two storey bedroom wing completes the L-shape, that wraps the private garden. The main bedroom is on the upper floor, enjoying views down to the pool and beyond.
The interior design takes its cue from the exterior. The well-proportioned spaces with abundant natural light, feel tranquil and warm. Timber combined with stone and neutral colours creates a timeless, and harmonious interior in this classic, but very contemporary beach house.
