The concept for this country holiday retreat is a direct and powerful response to its place. Set on 18 hectares in Main Ridge, Victoria, the residence responds quietly and confidently to its setting, while a carefully choreographed sequence of exterior and interior spaces heightens the impact of the stunning surrounding landscape.

Three connected pavilions descend the hillside protected by a single roof plane which slopes parallel to the land. Low profile and robust, this practical rural building respects its peaceful setting, while enhancing the experience of being in such a beautiful place in a powerful and memorable way. Prioritising solar passive principles, communal spaces and indoor and outdoor living, solid durable materials including concrete block walls and polished concrete floors offer zero maintenance thermal mass and sustainability, while the monochrome palette provides subtlety and calmness, where nature is the hero.
