True Blue Terrace

An extension to a two storey Victorian terrace maximizes the potential of its sloping site to create a series of interesting, connected spaces and external views. The envelope is also designed in sympathy with the existing brick party walls, some of which are left exposed adding texture to the interior. The use of skylights and exposed brick links the old and the new and ensures the building reflects its heritage. Uninterrupted views of the garden – including an established Jacaranda tree – were created to maximise natural daylight and maintain a relationship to outside.  Big windows in a dramatic double storey void and a skylight at the end of the old hallway reveal unexpected vistas of parkland beyond.

This project sets an example of re-inventing how we live in our modern family homes so we can accommodate it all on a smaller footprint than the baby boomers generation: by streamlining spaces and overlapping their use, cleverly accommodating storage and services in bespoke joinery.
