Perched on a clifftop in the Mornington Peninsula, this three-storey holiday home offers breathtaking 180-degree panoramic views of the bay and surrounding treetops. Its spacious design makes it ideal for entertaining family and friends. The prominent use of concrete not only enhances the structure’s durability and longevity but also emphasises its commanding position atop the cliff.
At the center of the home is the infinity pool, which beautifully reflects the serene waters nearby. This design element enhances the visual appeal of the surroundings, creating a peaceful escape that adds to the luxurious allure of the property.
The ground floor is thoughtfully zoned to balance connection and privacy. One wing houses a grand master suite that overlooks the pool. Centrally located is the entertainer’s kitchen and dining area, which opens onto a large outdoor terrace. Sheltered by a sweeping curved concrete soffit, the terrace offers uninterrupted views of the treetops and the bay. Opposite, an intimate living area provides space for relaxation and gathering.
The design responds to the client’s brief, incorporating distinct zones for the parents and children, allowing them to unwind independently while also providing shared spaces for connection. Whether it’s diving into the pool, enjoying a game of billiards in the upstairs rumpus room, or sipping wine in the cellar, the home is crafted for comfort and experience.
Recognising the challenges posed by the harsh clifftop environment, the design prioritises robustness and longevity. Architectural elements that extend outward not only provide protection but also create an inviting outdoor space. Durable natural materials such as tile, timber, and sleek concrete roof profiles help soften the building’s overall appearance and emphasise its horizontal architectural lines. Shades of silver and grey subtly echo the tones of the coastal vegetation, allowing the house to sit comfortably within its natural surroundings.
